ARROGANT: The Memoir
Seeking God? Addicted to drugs or bad habits?
Ron Alexander has written a masterfully scripted memoir, ARROGANT, for those
who are lost, depressed, or may believe life holds no meaning. Alexander's memoir
chronicles his life from 1954 to 2005 where he experienced firsthand social changes
that shaped our country's future. From pre and post segregation, the political and
social impact of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Huey Newton's Black Panther
Party, Alexander interweaves them brilliantly with how they affected his life. After
years of harboring a deep resentment and anger, attending twelve step meetings and
languishing in mental health institutions, through the grace of God, he was able to
embrace a life filled with joy, love, hope and redemption. Ron Alexander's poignant
narrative reveals how God can heal your life despite a painful
past.

....

When I began to write my first book in 2006,  my goal was
merely to tell a good story. I wanted to write a sensational
book that would land me a seat on the Oprah show. I wanted
frame and fortune. I didn't bother to consider how the
inclusion or exclusion of God would impact the finished book.

I no longer believe that I am writing for myself. Today, I have
come to believe, I am writing to be God's instrument and  bring
healing into people's lives.
Writing was a personal choice, a decision, I made when I was
just twelve years old. I couldn't put together two words without
stuttering. I was shy and withdrawn, very afraid of people.
Writing became the only way I could express myself with
confidence.
Author Ron Alexander recently spoke at Olney High School of Performing Arts in
Philadelphia, where he encouraged students to take literacy seriously. African
American students, particularly boys, are dropping out of school in record
numbers in Philadelphia and around the country, a trend that Alexander says “is
disturbing, and will lead to more black students choosing crime and drugs over
college and careers.”
Alexander emphasized that good writing and speaking skills will lead to the
fulfillment of goals, while illiteracy will lead to street hustling, teenage pregnancy,
poverty and prison. Without goals, talent and potential are wasted, Philadelphia, the
country and world are shortchanged.
“You are judged by how well you speak and write,” Alexander stressed to the
students. “Your feelings, your thoughts, your ideas, will be ignored or rejected if
you are not articulate, charismatic and personable.
